In the constant quest to improve road safety services in Lagos, VIS Director of Vehicle Inspections, Akin-George Fashola, revealed a new approach on Channels Television’s morning show, The Morning Brief , Monday February 19, 2024.
He explained that VIS officials no longer disrupt motorists on the roads because the service has developed technology specifically targeting private drivers.
Fashola pointed out that the agency will now put more emphasis on commercial drivers in 2024 to reduce the number of vehicles in poor condition on the roads.
He said: “I have complete confidence in the technology that the state has developed and deployed to care for private citizens. Vehicle inspection officers in Lagos State hardly bother private citizens on the roads anymore.
“In 2024, we are focusing on commercial entities because there are so many. It is time to change our focus, our approach to reduce these numbers to a reasonable level.
“That said, even private citizens sometimes have vehicles in poor condition, but my main focus is commercial citizens. »
Asked about the power of officers to make arrests for wrong-way drivers, Fashola stressed that wrong-way driving is a traffic violation, adding that it is not their priority but an additional action.
Commercial drivers in Lagos, especially those of the famous yellow vehicles known as Danfos, are often associated with irresponsible and aggressive behavior on the road.
This new direction of the VIS, focused on increased monitoring of commercial drivers, aims to improve road safety in Lagos and ensure safer traffic for all road users.
