DRC: kidnappings, floods, modernization… A country with multiple challenges.

In the Mambasa region, the Ugandan rebels of the Democratic and Allied Forces (ADF) abducted 14 civilians during their incursions into localities in the Bangole groupement and Makumo south of the center of Mambasa. These terrorist acts caused the death of 5 civilians.

According to the coordinator of the New Congolese Civil Society, the army must intensify combat patrols in the region to face the enemies of peace. As for the population, it must increase its vigilance given that the rebels are still visible in the surrounding forests.

These dramatic events come as the Democratic Republic of Congo has to deal with devastating floods, affecting thousands of people and requiring urgent humanitarian aid. In addition, the country is continuing its modernization, with rockfill works on the Banana site for the modernization of the ports and the revival of the economy.

Faced with these challenges, President Félix Tshisekedi paid a visit to Botswana in order to reassure the Congolese diaspora and restore peace in the east of the country. Despite the difficulties, the DRC renews its confidence in the community of East African States to face the security challenges in the Great Lakes region.

At the same time, the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) takes stock of voter registration in the country for reliable elections, despite some major difficulties. In Beni, the police arrested 22 people suspected of burglary and armed robbery.

Finally, a fatal accident occurred in Bukavu, causing the death of three people and injuring nine others. UNICEF also intervenes in humanitarian emergencies in South Kivu to deal with floods and health risks.

Despite the challenges, the DRC remains a dynamic country in full transformation, seeking to overcome obstacles for a better future.
