“Security and development challenges in the DRC: President Tshisekedi’s priorities to restore hope and improve the lives of the Congolese”

Restoring security and improving living conditions in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are major challenges that re-elected President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi will have to face. In his campaign speech, President Tshisekedi pledged to restore state authority and ensure security for all by restructuring the security apparatus and recruiting more police officers. However, the reality on the ground shows that armed groups continue to sow violence, particularly in the east of the country.

In North Kivu, the M23 rebel movement, supported by Rwanda, has recently intensified its attacks against armed self-defense groups. Millions of Congolese have been forced to flee their homes and seek refuge with host families or in displacement camps. These populations live in precarious conditions, often without assistance, and face the risk of malnutrition.

In addition to foreign armed groups such as the FDLR and ADF, local armed groups such as CODECO and Zaire continue to sow terror in the Ituri region, causing further population displacements. Although the state of siege has reduced violence, many Congolese are still unable to return home due to continued insecurity.

Another challenge that President Tshisekedi must face is improving the living conditions of the Congolese. This involves promoting employment, continuing professional training and ensuring sufficient income. It is necessary to fight against poverty, social exclusion and the vulnerability of the Congolese populations.

This involves in particular the construction of infrastructure such as roads, which will allow the evacuation of agricultural products to consumption centers and will facilitate the movement of populations. Access to electricity and drinking water is also crucial to improving the quality of life of the Congolese.

One of the major obstacles to achieving these goals is corruption. The government has put in place measures to combat this scourge, but additional efforts are needed. Public revenues diverted due to corruption could be used to finance development programs and improve public services.

In conclusion, restoring security and improving living conditions in the DRC are complex challenges that President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi must face. This requires firm action against armed groups, investments in infrastructure and effective anti-corruption measures. The Congolese people expect concrete results from their government to improve their daily lives and hope for lasting stability in the country.
