“Fight against corruption in the DRC: Raising awareness among public officials for transparent and responsible financial management”

Fighting against embezzlement of public funds and promoting transparent and efficient financial management are major challenges for the development of any country. In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), these issues are no exception. This is why an educational session organized by the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) in collaboration with the National Association of Portfolio Companies (ANEP) was recently set up to raise awareness among public company officers.

This initiative is part of the vision of the Head of State, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi, who wishes to put an end to prevarication practices and establish rigorous management of public finances and property. The IGF, as a control body, plays a key role in the fight against financial mismanagement and embezzlement.

During this educational session, chaired by the Executive Secretary of ANEP, the public officials were able to express their concerns and worries about the management of the IGF. In response, the Inspector General of Finance-Brigade Chief, Gabriel Kabanangi, explained the reasons for the a priori and concomitant control of the IGF in the companies of the Portfolio and the public establishments.

The main objective of this preventive control is to deter acts of bad governance, to follow up on previous recommendations and to advise managers on good management practices. It also aims to clean up the financial situation of public enterprises by discouraging ill-intentioned individuals. By implementing this control, the IGF seeks to prevent fraud, embezzlement and financial embezzlement to promote sound and responsible governance.

The head of department, Jules Alingete, also wanted to reassure public officials by stressing that the IGF is not there to corner managers, but to support them in improving their practices. This educational session enabled the agents to better understand the issues and risks related to their function, and to become aware of the importance of complying with legal and regulatory requirements.

At the end of this session, the public officials expressed their satisfaction and underlined the importance of learning the lessons necessary to improve their management. This educational approach of the IGF and the ANEP constitutes an important step in the fight against the embezzlement of public funds and the promotion of responsible governance in the DRC.

It is essential to emphasize that transparency and accountability in the management of public finances are key elements to ensure sustainable economic and social development.. By encouraging public officials to adopt good management practices, the DRC will be able to strengthen its credibility on the international scene and attract more investment to support its development
