Raising taxpayer awareness of property taxes in Kinshasa: a major concern for the DGRK and the FEC
The Directorate General of Revenue of Kinshasa (DGRK), in collaboration with the Federation of Congolese Enterprises (FEC), took the initiative of organizing a morning to raise awareness among taxpayers in Kinshasa on the payment of property tax. This initiative, which aims to inform and educate taxpayers on the tax obligations linked to property tax, concerns entrepreneurs as well as legal and natural persons.
According to Michée Musaka, director general of the DGRK, this awareness morning is of capital importance due to the deadline set by legal and regulatory texts for the payment of property tax, running from January 1 to February 1, 2024. He also underlines that this initiative is based on collaboration between the tax administration and employers, aiming to guarantee a clear understanding of the payment rates and terms of the property tax.
The objective of this awareness raising is to provide explanations on the different taxable matters, such as the tax on the built and unbuilt concession area, the tax on rental income, as well as housing allowances for owners who live in their own homes. Orders were published in the official journal to define the rates to be paid by each.
It should be noted that this initiative is part of a context of active collaboration between the DGRK and the FEC, aimed at strengthening taxpayers’ understanding of tax obligations linked to property tax. By raising awareness among entrepreneurs and other taxpayers, it is hoped that compliance with property tax payment deadlines will be facilitated and that this will contribute to strengthening the revenue of the city of Kinshasa.
In conclusion, raising taxpayer awareness of property taxes in Kinshasa is an essential initiative led by the DGRK and the FEC. By informing and educating taxpayers on tax obligations related to property tax, it is hoped that compliance with payment deadlines will be improved, thus contributing to the economic development of the city of Kinshasa.
