“Tragic accident in Bukavu: the rehabilitation of National Road number 2 in danger”

On Saturday March 13, 2023, a traffic accident on National Road number 2 in Bukavu caused the death of three people, including two women. The accident happened when the bus carrying 13 people went off the road and crashed into the Wima High School compound in Kadutu. Nine passengers were injured in the accident and were all taken care of in various medical facilities in the area.

The state of dilapidation of National Road number 2 is advanced and works were planned for its rehabilitation. However, the works have not yet started despite the funds provided by the Deputy Prime Minister of Economy, Vital Kamerhe, during his recent visit to Bukavu. This situation is extremely worrying, as it endangers the lives of passengers using this dangerous route.

It is essential that the authorities take action to improve road safety in the DRC. The rehabilitation of the National Road number 2 should be a priority to avoid the repetition of such accidents. The government must also take steps to ensure passenger safety, including strengthening public transport regulations and implementing awareness campaigns for drivers and passengers.

Finally, we would like to offer our sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. We hope that strong measures will be taken to avoid such tragedies in the future.
