Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is preparing to soon host a “city of trades”. This ambitious project, the construction of which was launched by President Félix Tshisekedi, aims to train and prepare the Congolese population, in particular the youth, for the professional world.
The “city of trades” will be located at the Agricultural Institute of Mombele, in the commune of Limete in Kinshasa. The result of a partnership between the DRC, Belgium and with the technical support of Egypt, this infrastructure will cover the 4 linguistic zones of the country. The main objective of this initiative is to reduce the unemployment rate among young people and to solve the problem of the mismatch between training and employment.
According to the Minister of Vocational Training and Trades, Antoinette Kipulu Kabenga, the “city of trades” will be a space of resources and advice dedicated to orientation and professional life. Open to all audiences, this infrastructure will offer individual counseling services, a documentary and digital space, and other tools to help individuals prepare for their professional future.
In a council of ministers held recently, the minister stressed that the “city of trades” represents an opportunity for the Congolese population, in particular its youth, to have access to unified promotion, vocational guidance, popularization of trades and innovation in entrepreneurship. The ultimate goal is to reduce the unemployment rate and create better job prospects.
This initiative is an important step in the development of Congolese youth and in the transformation of the labor market in the DRC. By offering training and resources adapted to the needs of the market, the “city of trades” will undoubtedly help to strengthen the skills of young people and promote their professional integration.
Kinshasa is thus positioning itself as a dynamic and forward-looking city, where professional development opportunities are encouraged and supported. With the construction of the “city of trades”, the DRC demonstrates its desire to promote education and vocational training, and to prepare its youth to meet the challenges of the world of work.
In conclusion, the creation of the “city of trades” in Kinshasa is excellent news for the DRC. This project will train and prepare Congolese youth for the professional world, by reducing the unemployment rate and promoting the match between training and employment. This is an important step in the socio-economic development of the country, and a positive sign for young people who will thus be able to envisage a promising professional future
