News: A presidential candidate stands out widely in the DRC
In a preliminary report published recently in Kinshasa, the Electoral Observation Mission of Catholic and Protestant Churches (MOE CENCO-ECC) states that one candidate stands out significantly from the others in the results of the presidential election in the Democratic Republic of Congo ( DRC).
According to the report, thanks to its parallel vote counting system, the MOE CENCO-ECC notes that this candidate obtained more than half of the votes cast, thus placing himself in first position.
The partial results published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) confirm this trend. Out of a total of 9,333,562 valid votes cast, candidate Félix Tshisekedi obtained 77.3% of the votes, or 7,219,816 votes. Moïse Katumbi comes in second position with 15.7% of the votes.
However, the CENCO-ECC MOE also highlights the presence of numerous irregularities likely to compromise the integrity of the results in certain constituencies. She therefore urges the CENI, the Constitutional Court and other competent courts and tribunals to take their responsibilities and draw the necessary consequences from these irregularities on the results of the presidential election.
The MOE CENCO-ECC deployed an impressive observation system with 25,000 observers in the 75,000 polling stations across the country. It also mobilized 11,000 citizen observers to ensure a transparent electoral process.
This report was eagerly awaited, especially by certain opposition candidates who accuse the government in place and the CENI of having orchestrated a sham election.
It is important to emphasize that these results are preliminary and that the next stages of the electoral process, in particular the validation of the results by the Constitutional Court, will be decisive for the official proclamation of the future president of the DRC.
It is therefore important to remain vigilant and closely monitor developments in the political situation in the DRC in the days to come.
