Article: “The “Bomoko pona Congo” campaign: Unity for the future of the Democratic Republic of Congo”
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) recently experienced general elections, marked by certain irregularities, and a climate of post-electoral tension. Faced with this situation, several civil society organizations launched a campaign called “Bomoko pona Congo” (Unity for Congo), aimed at raising awareness of the importance of peace and stability in the country.
La Lucha, the National Youth Council (CNJ), Filimbi, Collective 2016 of Rossy MUKENDI, and the Student Corporation are among the initiators of this campaign, which invites the Congolese to overcome the irregularities observed during the elections and to focus on the future of the country. Carbone Beni de Iconia (Icon institute for alternatives), who read the campaign statement, emphasizes that despite some administrative imperfections, it is essential to recognize the efforts made by the government and the CENI (Independent National Electoral Commission) to organize the elections in difficult conditions.
The campaign highlights achievements of the electoral process, such as the organization of elections within the constitutional deadline despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the resolution of security crises, the deployment of electoral kits in sensitive areas, the participation of the Congolese living abroad, the use of digital technology to accelerate activities, and the regulation of the publication of votes office by office.
The citizen movements behind this campaign believe that problems such as the late opening of certain polling stations, the failure of CENI agents in the use of IT tools, the difficult deployment of electoral materials and democratic ignorance of certain voters must not call into question the credibility of the electoral process.
Meanwhile, an opposition march organized on Wednesday to demand the cancellation of the elections was dispersed by law enforcement, leading to clashes and injuries among demonstrators and police.
The “Bomoko pona Congo” campaign therefore aims to remind the Congolese of the importance of unity and post-electoral stability to build the future of the country. She invites everyone to focus on the achievements of the electoral process and to work together to overcome current challenges and ensure a better future for the DRC.
In these critical moments for the country, it is essential to promote peace, dialogue and the responsibility of all actors, in order to preserve democracy and build a solid future for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
