Being a soldier is a profession that requires unfailing commitment and constant sacrifice. This was emphasized by the Chief of Army Staff of the Nigerian Army, General Lagbaja, during a special luncheon organized in honor of the frontline troops of the 6th Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt.
General Lagbaja, represented by the Commander, Nigerian Army Training and Doctrine Command, Major General Kevin Aligbe, expressed gratitude to the soldiers who gave up their personal comforts to ensure security and peace for Nigerians. He noted that more than 50,000 soldiers will not be able to spend the holiday season with their families this year, as they will be on field missions in hard-to-reach areas across the country.
General Lagbaja also discussed the outlook for the year 2024, highlighting the various programs launched by the Federal Government to strengthen the Nigerian Army and improve security in the country. He announced the arrival of new helicopters and other combat equipment, as well as projects aimed at improving the living conditions of soldiers and their families.
The safety of Soldiers is a top priority, he added, and the Army will continue to provide the resources and support necessary for their well-being and performance of their duties. General Lagbaja also stressed his desire to repatriate soldiers safely to their families and engaged other security agencies to take over their law enforcement missions to enable a gradual withdrawal of troops engaged in internal security operations.
General Abdussalam, Commander of the 6th Division of the Nigerian Army, expressed his gratitude to the soldiers for their sacrifices in the fight against oil theft and illegal operations in the Niger Delta, which enabled to increase oil production. He also assured that those responsible for the ambush which cost the lives of four soldiers would be quickly apprehended and prosecuted.
