“The stability of the exchange rate in the DRC: a key promise of the presidential candidates to preserve the purchasing power of the Congolese”

The political debate in the Democratic Republic of Congo is raging, and presidential candidates are competing in their commitment to responding to the concerns of the population. One of the main promises on everyone’s lips is the stability of the exchange rate in order to avoid the depreciation of the Congolese franc. Indeed, the devaluation of the local currency has a direct impact on the purchasing power of the Congolese, which makes life more and more expensive for the population.

The candidates for the supreme office have therefore committed to taking measures to stabilize the exchange rate and thus preserve the value of the Congolese franc. This promise is welcomed by the crowds during campaign meetings, because the Congolese are feeling the full force of the consequences of inflation on the foreign exchange market.

But the reduction in the cost of living is not just limited to the stability of the exchange rate. The candidates also promised to revive the industrial fabric of the DRC, in order to create jobs and generate economic growth. Among the projects mentioned, the relaunch of the Bakwanga Mining Company (MIBA) is highlighted by certain candidates, such as Félix Tshisekedi.

However, the commitments made by the candidates sometimes leave analysts wanting more, who would have liked concrete details on how these issues will be resolved. Indeed, the issue of infrastructure, particularly agricultural service roads in an advanced state of degradation, is a major concern. Agricultural products struggle to be transported to consumption centers, leading to considerable losses for farmers and an increase in prices for consumers.

Despite this, the willingness shown by the candidates to find solutions to these problems is encouraging. It remains to be seen which candidate will be elected and what concrete measures will be taken to face these economic challenges. The Congolese population is impatiently awaiting concrete actions that will truly improve their daily lives.
