Political tensions in Grand Kasai: The Tshisekedi and Katumbi camps enter into direct confrontation before the presidential election in the DRC

Greater Kasai is currently the scene of growing political tensions in the run-up to the presidential election in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Tshisekedi and Katumbi camps enter into direct confrontation, suggesting delicate moments to come.

During a recent electoral campaign meeting, the outgoing president, Félix Tshisekedi, made enigmatic remarks, referring to “a son of the region who joined the enemy”, without mentioning a name. Delly Sesanga, feeling targeted by these statements, was quick to react.

During a press conference in Kananga, capital of the Kasai-Central province, the leader of the Envol party strongly criticized the outgoing president’s use of such an expression. According to him, such strong words risk “transforming the political field into a field of war” at a time when the electoral campaign is in full swing.

“To say that the son of Kasai has joined the enemy, these words have a meaning in a democracy, we are political adversaries, not enemies. I am dismayed to see that the outgoing President of the Republic, because the people must come out, uses words that transform the political field into a field of war, and that his political camp uses maneuvers to divide the Congolese against each other. The blood of the Kasaians will not flow and we will not give anyone the pretext to do so. shed blood in this province,” Sesanga said vehemently.

The politician also warned against any attempt to exploit community tensions in the Kasai region. He issued a direct warning to President Tshisekedi, calling on him not to divide the Kasaians with the other components of the DRC. Sesanga stressed the need to prevent any violence and not give in to dangerous discourse that could cause havoc.

This escalation of political tensions in Greater Kasai raises concerns about the harmony and stability of the region. With the presidential election fast approaching, it is crucial that political leaders demonstrate responsibility and unifying language to avoid any escalation of violence and preserve peace in the region.

The situation remains tense and the outcome of this election remains uncertain. Let us hope that political leaders will be able to demonstrate wisdom and restraint, in order to avoid any conflict and allow the Congolese to choose their leaders in a climate of calm and democracy. The Congolese nation deserves a peaceful and fair political transition, where dialogue and respect are at the heart of the electoral process.
