Tragedy in Ikere Ekiti: Three men killed in armed attack on banks
In a tragic incident that unfolded on Wednesday evening in Ikere Ekiti, three men were killed in an armed attack at two banks in the area.
According to reports, the robbers arrived around 4:30 p.m., firing shots into the air and causing panic among residents of the community. They managed to enter the bank lobbies by blowing up the doors using dynamite, taking with them an undisclosed amount of money.
It was also reported that the robbers, numbering around 20, attacked the two commercial banks simultaneously. Before attacking the banks, they allegedly first attacked the Ikere command post of the Amotekun Corps, the local security outfit, on Ise road, and shot some officers.
A witness near the scene of the robbery said he saw a bloodied body near the door of one of the banks, while he learned that two other people were killed by the robbers in another part of the city.
According to him, “I can confirm the death of a man in one of the banks. He was shot in the head. The lifeless body was there until the police arrived and dispersed. people. I heard two other people were shot elsewhere.”
Another source, who revealed that the thieves used a motorbike and a black car for the operation, added, “We even learned that their explosives hit a van and damaged the vehicle on the roadside.”
A community leader described the incident as unfortunate, noting that the thieves carried out their operations in the two banks for several minutes without being disturbed, before fleeing.
The community leader said local authorities alerted security forces, including the sector commander, the police director and the internal intelligence service, who assured that soldiers were present in the area.
Attempts to reach the Ekiti State Police spokesperson, Sunday Abutu, for a reaction were unsuccessful.
