“The “Congo Tolingi” project: the voice of the Congolese people for a better future”

The popular consultations initiated by the “Pona Congo” citizen network as part of its “Congo Tolingi” project resulted in the restitution of the social contract during a ceremony held on July 15 at the municipal stadium of the commune of Masina. This initiative made it possible to collect the concerns of the Congolese in the 24 communes of Kinshasa as well as in the cities and territories of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The results of these consultations highlight several areas of disappointment and concern for Congolese citizens. Issues related to political leadership, economy, security, education and health were particularly addressed. The Congolese believe that these areas are not sufficiently taken into account by the current leaders.

As part of the “Congo Tolingi” project, 20 commitments have been determined and will be offered to future candidates for the elections. The Congolese are invited to support these commitments by giving their vote to the candidates who undertake to respect them.

The next phase of the project will consist of raising awareness among the Congolese about this social contract. The “Pona Congo” network wishes that all citizens take ownership of this contract and ensure that future leaders honor the commitments recorded therein. Once elected, accountability mechanisms will be put in place to ensure that leaders meet their commitments.

It is important to stress that the “Congo Tolingi” project will not stop after the elections. The “Pona Congo” network intends to ensure accountability and democratically sanction any leader who does not respect the commitments of the social contract.

This project is of great importance for the Congolese because it allows to refocus the political debate on the real problems of the country and to involve the citizens in the decision-making process. By renewing political leaders and choosing committed leaders, the Congolese hope to see their concerns and expectations taken into account to build a better future.

Ultimately, the “Congo Tolingi” project highlights the need for active citizen participation and accountability of political leaders to effectively meet the needs and aspirations of the Congolese people
