On December 9, the Ngonzi Balele group and the Bokutu village, in the Ngombe-Doko sector, were the scene of a tragic community conflict that plunged the province of Mongala, more precisely the territory of Lisala, into a spiral of violence and destruction. Several lives were lost and more than 320 houses were reduced to ashes, leaving behind a landscape of desolation and suffering.

Faced with this dramatic situation, Senator Michel Lingepo initiated a senatorial commission of inquiry, led by his colleague Pancrace Boongo. This commission’s mission is to identify the root causes of the conflict and propose sustainable solutions to bring peace and stability to the region.

On Thursday, December 26, Governor Makaka Jean Collins visited the site, accompanied by four senators who are members of the commission, in order to provide concrete support to the populations affected by the violence. In a speech filled with compassion and determination, Senator Lingepo stressed the importance of the commitment of local and national elected officials to resolve intercommunity conflicts and protect vulnerable populations.

He also recalled that despite the limited resources of the provincial government, the will to find solutions to these crises is strong. The senators promised to make a detailed report to the plenary of the Senate so that concrete measures can be taken to ease tensions and prevent new tragedies.

The conflict that has shaken the province of Mongala is a brutal reminder of the challenges facing many communities in the DRC. Violence and instability can arise at any time, jeopardizing social cohesion and sustainable development in the affected regions.

It is urgent that all stakeholders, from local authorities to national representatives, join forces to put an end to this violence and promote inclusive and peaceful dialogue. Peace and reconciliation are the pillars of a balanced and prosperous society, and it is our collective duty to defend and protect them.

In conclusion, the tragedy that unfolded in Mongala must serve as a catalyst for concrete and immediate actions for peace and stability. Together, we can overcome divisions, heal wounds, and build a better future for all the people of the DRC.
