President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi’s recent visit to Kananga, in the province of Kasaï Central, was marked by fruitful discussions with Archbishop Félicien Tambwe. At the heart of their discussions were the major challenges of the development of the Greater Kasaï region.
The Archbishop raised the crucial issue of road access, stressing the need to invest in suitable transport infrastructure to promote trade and stimulate economic development. In particular, he highlighted the Kalamba Mbuji road construction project, while calling for in-depth reflection on the economic implications of such an initiative, in order to avoid excessive dependence on Angola.
Another point raised by the Archbishop was the issue of electrical energy, which is essential for the industrial development of the region. In the absence of a reliable source of electricity, Greater Kasai risks being left out of any industrialization process, thus depriving its population of essential economic opportunities.
Furthermore, the Archbishop drew attention to the problem of ravines, which threaten existing infrastructure and jeopardize the safety of residents. He stressed the urgent need for government intervention to resolve this problem and ensure a safe and stable environment for the population of Greater Kasai.
Finally, Félicien Tambwe stressed the importance of supporting local development and promoting the economic growth of the region. He called on the central government to take concrete measures to electrify the region, in order to enable the inhabitants of Greater Kasai to fully benefit from the development opportunities available to them.
This meeting between President Tshisekedi and Archbishop Tambwe highlights the challenges and issues facing Greater Kasai. It also underlines the importance of a strategic vision and coordinated action to ensure a prosperous and sustainable future for this essential region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
