Fight against corruption and preservation of public property: The DRC government strikes hard in Kasai Central

The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo has recently taken unprecedented measures to combat the dispossession of public property and embezzlement in the province of Kasai Central. Under the leadership of the Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Constant Mutamba, investigations were launched following allegations of dispossession concerning the building of the Urban Division of Gender, Family and Children in Kananga.

The Tshibangu Astrid case, who is accused of dispossession of this building, has caught the attention of the judicial authorities, with the aim of initiating prosecutions and restoring justice. This approach is essential to preserve the integrity of public property and combat corruption at all levels of society.

In addition, the embezzlement of funds intended for road construction in the province has also been highlighted. Minister Mutamba has ordered the Prosecutor General of Kasai Central to prosecute those allegedly responsible for these reprehensible acts. Relevant bodies, such as the Central Coordination Office (BCECO) and other entities, will be closely scrutinized to ensure transparency and proper management of public funds.

These measures are part of the government’s strong desire to protect national heritage and combat economic predation. The recent declaration of public property as “unseizable” aims to strengthen this protection and deter any attempt at illegal seizure.

In parallel, the desire of the justice system to supervise and control seized and confiscated assets is a significant step towards more transparent and responsible management of public assets. Key institutions, such as the Central Bank of Congo, the DGDA and ONATRA, have been ordered to collaborate with the Commission for the Management of Seized and Confiscated Assets to ensure the traceability and restitution of the assets concerned.

This series of measures reveals a strong political will to restore citizens’ trust in institutions and to actively fight corruption and impunity. By tackling cases of dispossession and embezzlement, the government is sending a clear signal: justice and integrity must prevail to build a more just and prosperous future for all Congolese.
