The ecological renaissance of the Mpasa Technical Landfill Center: a hope for the future of Kinshasa

The Mpasa Technical Landfill Center (CET), located on the outskirts of Kinshasa, is of crucial importance for waste management in the Congolese capital. After years of litigation and abandonment, this strategic site is finally being reborn, under the aegis of the city, following an official restitution orchestrated by the Minister of Land Affairs, Acacia Bandubola.

This move marks a significant turning point in the environmental policy promoted by the dynamic Governor Daniel Bumba. The resolution of this complex legal situation finally makes it possible to revitalize the waste management program, a crucial issue in combating the insalubrity that is rife in the Congolese metropolis.

The Mpasa site rehabilitation project looks promising. Indeed, this vast area should soon accommodate modern infrastructure, such as a large-scale waste disposal center and waste recovery plants. These initiatives are part of a circular economy approach, aimed at providing sustainable solutions to effectively manage the waste that is accumulating in Kinshasa.

Governor Bumba expresses his gratitude to President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi for his unwavering support in this process. He also salutes the crucial role played by Prime Minister Judith Suminwa and Minister Acacia Bandubola, whose determination was essential to achieve this fundamental restitution of the city’s rights to this precious site.

The Minister Delegate in charge of Urban Policy, Didier Tenge Te Litho, encourages the Governor to persevere in his initiatives aimed at improving the image and quality of life of the inhabitants of Kinshasa. He reiterates the central government’s commitment to fully support these ambitious projects, which will undoubtedly contribute to positively transforming waste management in the Congolese capital.

In a context where environmental preservation and sustainable waste management are major issues, this rehabilitation of the Mpasa CET is a crucial step in the quest for a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Kinshasa for its inhabitants and future generations.
