Strategic change at the top of the Congolese Armed Forces: Political, health and festive issues in the Democratic Republic of Congo

The article discusses recent changes in the Congolese Armed Forces, with the appointment of a new chief of staff to address the difficult security situation in the east of the country. It also highlights the fight against leishmaniasis, a devastating disease in the DRC, and stresses the importance of raising awareness and mobilizing resources to address it. Finally, it discusses preparations for the end-of-year celebrations and Tirthankar Chanda
At the heart of the political turmoil in the Democratic Republic of Congo, President Felix Tshisekedi has just announced major upheavals within the Congolese Armed Forces. Indeed, General Christian Tshiwewe Songesha is leaving his position as Chief of Staff of the FARDC to Lieutenant-General Jules Banza Mwilambwe. This strategic change at the top of the national army comes in a context marked by a constant deterioration of the security and humanitarian situation, particularly in the east of the country.

This appointment is part of a desire to strengthen the effectiveness of military operations in the face of the complex challenges faced by the Congolese armed forces. The security issues in the eastern region of the DRC, in particular the persistence of armed groups and intercommunity violence, require rigorous management and optimal coordination within the FARDC.

Furthermore, beyond the political-military aspects, it is essential to emphasize the importance of public health in the country. Leishmaniasis, a disease that is too often neglected, continues to rage in the DRC and other regions of the world. Classified by the WHO as a neglected disease, it mainly affects the most vulnerable populations and attracts little investment in research and development of effective treatments. With more than a million cases recorded each year, mainly in western Kenya, there is an urgent need to raise awareness about this disease and mobilize the necessary resources to combat its spread.

In parallel with these political and health issues, the holiday season is looming on the horizon. Between traditions and gift exchanges, it is time to organize ourselves to celebrate in joy and conviviality. And in this perspective, experts such as Tirthankar Chanda, journalist and specialist in African literature, can provide valuable insight into choosing the perfect gifts, particularly books that highlight the cultural richness of Africa and its diaspora.

Thus, between the reshuffles within the FARDC, the fight against leishmaniasis and the preparations for the end-of-year celebrations, the news in the Democratic Republic of Congo continues to reveal the diversity of challenges and opportunities facing a country in search of stability, health and sharing.
