Suspension lifted: Major twist in the Fungurume mayor case

In an unexpected turn of events, the Deputy Prime Minister calls for the revocation of Mayor Lesaint Kaleng
Following a recent development in the case concerning the suspension of Lesaint Kaleng, mayor of Fungurume commune, Lualaba province, the affair is taking an unexpected turn. Indeed, a telegram dated December 12 from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Jacquemin Shabani, asked the Governor of Lualaba, Fifi Masuka, to withdraw her suspension order against the mayor.

In the same telegram, Jacquemin Shabani summoned Governor Fifi Masuka to his office in Kinshasa upon receipt of this official correspondence. This approach reveals a strong desire on the part of the central authorities to take charge of this matter and clarify the situation that seems to have become complex and controversial.

For the record, Lesaint Kaleng had been suspended by the governor of Lualaba for serious reasons such as indiscipline, insubordination and allegations of embezzlement of public funds, particularly from mining royalties. These accusations cast a shadow over the mayor’s reputation and sparked strong reactions among the local population.

Following this request for revocation of the suspension by the Minister of the Interior, the political landscape of the commune of Fungurume could undergo significant changes. Tensions and political rivalries could intensify, while the population awaits clarification on these serious allegations made against Lesaint Kaleng.

It is now essential to closely monitor the developments in this case as well as future decisions taken by the competent authorities. The outcome of this situation could have a major impact on local governance and the rule of law in the Lualaba region.
