On this day of December 11, a commendable initiative was undertaken by UNICEF, which handed over a total of 84 motorcycles to the health zones of the provinces of Tshopo and Bas-Uele. This action aims to strengthen the health system in these regions, thus responding to a request from the Ministry of Health to support the travel necessary for the supervision of medical activities in the field.
Dr. Amédée Prosper Djigunde, UNICEF representative, expressed his confidence in the positive impact of this allocation on vaccination issues in these areas. Indeed, these means of transport will allow health workers to more easily access remote populations, thus contributing to the improvement of health services and the promotion of universal health coverage, a major objective of the government.
Practitioners in the health zones of Tshopo and Lubunga highlighted the challenges they faced in supervising medical activities in the field, due to the lack of suitable means of transport. These obstacles have now been overcome thanks to this valuable donation of motorcycles.
Dr. Lolo Ofoidi, Chief Medical Officer of the Tshopo Health Zone, stressed the importance of these machines to ensure supervision, training and monitoring of health actions, while his counterpart in Lubunga stressed the facilitation of mobility to be closer to health facilities.
The Chief of Staff of the Minister of Health stressed the importance of proper use of these motorcycles, insisting on their use exclusively for professional purposes. This recommendation was supported by the provincial governor present at the ceremony to hand over the machines.
In the presence of local authorities and technical and financial partners, the official handover of these motorcycles was a true symbol of solidarity and commitment to improving health services in these provinces. This initiative illustrates the importance of collaboration between public and private actors to address public health challenges and work together towards common goals of well-being and equity.
