Insecurity in Kisangani: Residents demand justice and security

In the city of Kisangani, an unbearable drama took place on the night of December 13. Armed men sowed terror in the streets of the commune of Makiso, thus demonstrating the growing insecurity that reigns in this region.

A tragic event marked this fateful night: a taxi driver, named Claude Kanyemba, was coldly shot dead by individuals whose identity remains unknown. While he was traveling between Simisimi and Aspiro, his life was brutally interrupted. The attackers then fled, taking their victim’s motorcycle with them. These ruthless criminals did not hesitate to fire multiple bullets before disappearing into the darkness of the night.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case in the commune of Makiso. Similar incidents have multiplied in recent times, plunging the population into fear and insecurity. Another driver, this time of a three-wheeler, was found dead in front of his home on December 6. His mutilated body bore witness to the brutal violence of the attack.

In addition, there are reports of people being shot on the same road, reflecting the escalation of violence that seems to be taking hold in the region. Residents now live in constant fear, dreading every night that they will be the next victims of these despicable acts.

Faced with this tragic situation, the population is beginning to take drastic measures. Cases of mob justice are increasing, as evidenced by the story of this young man lynched in the commune of Tshopo. The provincial government recognizes the urgency of the situation and claims to have taken security measures to stem this wave of violence.

Faced with this surge in crime in Kisangani, it is becoming imperative to react quickly and effectively. Residents are demanding justice and security, basic needs that are unfortunately increasingly compromised in this region. It is urgent that the authorities take concrete measures to protect the population and punish the perpetrators of these heinous acts.
