The HIV/AIDS awareness campaign in the Democratic Republic of Congo is a major initiative that aims to mobilize communities and combat the persistent stigma surrounding this disease. Led by the Vodacom Foundation, in partnership with the National Multisectoral AIDS Control Program (PNMLS) and UNAIDS, this campaign highlights the importance of HIV prevention and the need for collective action based on evidence and effective partnerships.

In a context where HIV remains a continuing threat to public health, it is essential to put in place concrete actions to raise awareness and promote testing. The campaign, entitled “HIV is still here. Let’s end it.”, is structured around different awareness-raising activities, education and community events. Using SMS broadcast messages, digital platforms and adapted resources, it aims to reach a wide audience and provide crucial information on HIV prevention and treatment.

Ms. Suzanne KASEDDE, UNAIDS Representative, highlighted the importance of this collaboration with Vodacom Foundation to reach more people and provide much-needed support for prevention and testing. For her part, Pamela ILUNGA, Chair of the Board of Directors of Vodacom Foundation, highlighted the crucial role of technology and innovation in the fight against HIV, stressing the importance of digital platforms to raise awareness and make essential resources available.

At the heart of this campaign is the commitment to the community, especially young people, who are essential to disseminate key information and combat prejudices. Through community events, interactive workshops and social media campaigns, the campaign aims to encourage dialogue and inspire change within Congolese society.

By committing to send SMS messages on HIV prevention to all its mobile subscribers in the DRC by June 2024, the Vodacom Foundation is demonstrating its determination to raise awareness among a wider audience and strengthen efforts to combat HIV. Through initiatives such as community events and awareness campaigns, the campaign against HIV/AIDS in the DRC aims to advance the fight against this disease and promote a culture of prevention and support among the Congolese population.
