Tourism in Morocco: A Booming Sector
Morocco is celebrating a major milestone in its tourism industry, with a record 15.9 million visitors recorded by the end of November 2024. This performance marks a 20% increase compared to the same period in 2023, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
November was particularly notable, with the arrival of 1.3 million tourists, an increase of 31% compared to the previous year. This significant increase is a testament to Morocco’s growing appeal as a global travel destination.
Part of this growth came from Moroccan residents abroad, who contributed to a 17% increase in visits. Their influx added an additional 1.1 million visitors, highlighting the strong bond between Moroccans abroad and their home country.
Tourism plays a vital role in the Moroccan economy, representing approximately 7% of GDP. It is also a major source of employment and foreign currency, making the sector essential for the country’s growth.
In order to continue attracting tourists, Morocco has developed air links to key markets and is promoting lesser-known destinations across the country, strengthening its appeal to a wider range of travelers.
Morocco’s tourism strategy is ambitious. The country aims to welcome 17.5 million visitors by 2026, and 26 million by 2030, the year it will co-host the FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal.
These goals reflect Morocco’s desire to consolidate its position as one of the world’s leading tourist destinations. With its rich cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and legendary hospitality, Morocco continues to seduce travelers from around the world, offering an unforgettable experience to those who choose to discover its treasures.
