Tree Week: A Call to Action for a Sustainable Future

The province of Bas-Uele, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, was recently the scene of the Tree Week, launched by the provincial Minister of Environment, Miffy Angbangu Ngunza. This event is of paramount importance in a world facing the challenges of climate change and massive deforestation. Indeed, the protection of our natural resources, especially forests, has become a top priority to ensure a sustainable future for our planet.

During the opening ceremony, the Minister highlighted the incredible forest wealth of Bas-Uele and its essential role in the global fight against global warming. She also highlighted the positive impact of forest cover on the region’s ecosystem services, such as mitigating natural disasters, preserving biodiversity and improving the quality of life of local populations.

In a world where every action counts, the act of planting a tree is no longer limited to a simple environmental action. Indeed, it is now recognized that trees have a monetary value, due to their ability to produce oxygen and absorb carbon. Thus, each citizen of Bas-Uele is encouraged to engage in planting forest or fruit trees, considering this action as a collective responsibility towards all of humanity.

This initiative is fully in line with the provincial government’s program, focused on ecologically responsible management of the ecosystem in the face of current climate challenges. In addition, it responds to the national call launched by President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo for the “One Billion Trees” program, aimed at reforesting degraded areas across the country.

The reforestation activities carried out during this Tree Week are only a first step towards preserving our environment. They demonstrate the importance of the commitment of everyone, governments, organizations and citizens, to preserve our natural resources and ensure a sustainable future for future generations.

In conclusion, Tree Week in Bas-Uele Province is much more than just an environmental celebration. It is a call to action, a reminder of our duty to protect and preserve the nature around us. Each of us has a role to play in this great mission to safeguard our planet, and by planting a tree, we contribute to building a greener and more sustainable future for all.
