Bandit raids on medical facilities: a growing threat to the security of healthcare in Kongo-Central

The security of health centers is a crucial issue, essential for the proper functioning and accessibility of healthcare to the population. Unfortunately, in the province of Kongo-Central, a resurgence of bandit raids on medical facilities is causing great concern and jeopardizing patient care.

On the night of December 6, the Mawete 2 referral health center, located in the Nsona Mpangu health zone, was the target of a violent attack. The bandits stole more than 300,000 Congolese francs, mobile phones and other valuables belonging to patients and the hospital. This alarming situation raises essential questions about the security of medical infrastructure and the protection of health professionals and patients.

The president of the Kongo-Central civil society consultation framework, Jules Benga, calls on provincial authorities to act quickly to ensure the security of hospitals and health centers. It is unacceptable that bandits can attack health facilities, endangering the lives and health of people who need medical care.

This increase in bandit incursions into medical facilities is unfortunately not an isolated case. For several weeks, several medical centers in the Songololo territory have been the target of similar attacks, jeopardizing the continuity of care and the safety of healthcare workers and patients.

It is urgent that concrete measures be taken to ensure the security of medical facilities in Kongo-Central. The population has the right to quality health care, in a secure and peaceful environment. Provincial authorities must put in place effective strategies to prevent these attacks and ensure the protection of health facilities.

In conclusion, the resurgence of bandit raids on medical facilities is a danger to public health and to access to care for the populations of Kongo-Central. It is essential that rapid and effective action be taken to put an end to this threat and to ensure the security of health facilities.
