The Congolese government is launching Operation Ndobo to track down the Kulunas, urban bandits, and strengthen national security. This approach aims to restore public order and guarantee the stability of the country.
Operation to track down the Kulunas in the DRC

The security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo raises lively debates and concerns, particularly regarding the presence of urban bandits commonly called “Kulunas”. Faced with this threat, the Minister of the Interior, Jacquemain Shabani, recently launched Operation “Ndobo” to track down and control these criminals in the country’s urban areas.

This approach is part of the Congolese government’s stated desire to strengthen the capacities of the Congolese National Police in the fight against urban crime. Operation Ndobo, which aims to bring the Kulunas to justice to answer for their actions, represents a major turning point in the national security policy initiated by the Head of State, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi.

It should be noted that this operation will not be limited to the city of Kinshasa, but will extend to several other cities in the DRC such as Lubumbashi, Matadi, Kisangani, Mbandaka and Goma, which are also affected by insecurity linked to crime. This comprehensive approach demonstrates the government’s desire to effectively combat urban banditry on a national scale.

Furthermore, the evaluation of Operation “Ndobo” also includes the issue of traffic jams that hinder citizens’ daily mobility. Measures are being taken to improve road traffic management in the city of Kinshasa, in particular by strengthening police action in this area.

This initiative comes after the launch of Operation “Black Panther” in April 2024, which already aimed to combat banditry and crime in urban areas of the DRC. The progress expected under Operation “Ndobo” appears to be a concrete response to the security challenges facing the country.

In conclusion, this new approach to tracking down the Kulunas in the DRC represents a real challenge for the security and stability of the country. It demonstrates the determination of the authorities to effectively deal with urban crime and restore public order for the well-being of the Congolese population.
