Abstract: The Lobito Trans-African Corridor project brings together various international partners in massive investments spanning key sectors such as transport infrastructure, agriculture, clean energy, and humanitarian demining in Angola. These initiatives, of which the United States is a major player, aim to strengthen regional connections and support the economic development of the countries involved.
This article highlights an ambitious and transformative undertaking in Africa, the Lobito Trans-African Corridor project. This project mobilizes financing from several international actors, including the United States, which has committed $4 billion to this major project. This sum is in addition to investments from other international partners, including regional development banks.
One of the flagship projects of the Trans-African Corridor is the establishment of a new railway line linking Zambia to the port of Lobito in Angola, thus allowing for better connectivity between these countries. In parallel, the modernization of an existing line to the DRC is also benefiting from funding to improve the efficiency of trade and travel.
The agricultural sector is not left out, with the African Development Bank providing significant financial support aimed at strengthening regional value chains. The objective is to integrate a large number of farmers into these networks to boost the sector and ensure increased food security.
