The recent measures taken by the Supreme Council of Antiquities regarding the increase in entrance fees to visit the Pyramid of Khufu in Egypt have caused a shockwave among local and foreign visitors. This 50% increase in entrance fees, which will come into effect on January 1, 2025, has sparked a strong reaction among history buffs and tourists who regularly visit this iconic site.
The Pyramid of Khufu, one of Egypt’s most iconic historical monuments, attracts tourists from all over the world as well as local visitors in search of knowledge and wonder at this ancient architectural feat. The decision to increase entrance fees to access the pyramid’s interior aims to improve the services offered to visitors and strengthen the financial resources of the country’s archaeological sites.
The new fees to visit the Pyramid of Cheops starting next year are as follows: for foreign visitors, the cost will be 1,500 Egyptian pounds (about $30.26) instead of 900 pounds (about $18.16), while foreign students will pay 750 pounds (about $15.13) instead of 450 pounds (about $9.08). For Egyptian visitors, the fee will be 150 pounds (about $3.03) instead of 100 pounds (about $2.02), while Egyptian students will have to pay 75 pounds (about $1.51) instead of 50 pounds (about $1.01).
This measure, although controversial, aims to preserve Egypt’s cultural heritage and ensure the sustainability of archaeological sites for future generations. Accessing the Pyramid of Khufu is a unique and unforgettable experience, and it is essential to protect this historical treasure so that it can continue to inspire and amaze visitors from around the world.
In parallel, the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism has set up an online booking service to allow visitors to book their entrance tickets to archaeological sites and museums located in 17 governorates and cities across the country. This initiative aims to facilitate access to historical sites and provide a smoother and more enjoyable visiting experience for tourists and history enthusiasts who come to discover the treasures of ancient Egypt.
