Fatshimetrie, November 7, 2024 – The Provincial Blood Transfusion Coordination (CPTS) of Kwango, located in the Southwest of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is launching a vibrant appeal to the provincial government for increased financial, logistical and technical support. Despite its crucial role in supervising blood transfusion activities for the 14 health zones of the Kwango Provincial Health Division (DPS), the CPTS finds itself in a precarious situation, lacking a functional office and the necessary resources to carry out its missions.
Isifi Boluka Mayengele, managing administrator in charge of logistics at the CPTS Kwango, underlines the vital importance of this coordination for the health of the local population. Indeed, blood transfusion is of crucial importance in protecting against diseases such as HIV/AIDS during transfusions, and helps save lives, especially those of pregnant women. However, the lack of financial and logistical support hinders its proper functioning and makes it unable to fully fulfill its role in safeguarding the health of the inhabitants of Kwango.
For his part, Franklin Mushiza, supervising nurse of the CPTS Kwango, insists on the need to carry out field visits, train health providers and supervise blood transfusion activities in accordance with the national policy on the matter. Despite its autonomy since 2015, the CPTS seriously lacks the resources necessary to carry out its missions efficiently, which compromises its effectiveness and its capacity to respond to public health needs.
It is imperative that the provincial authorities of Kwango realize the importance of supporting the CPTS by providing it with the necessary means and tools to ensure safe and effective access to blood transfusion for the local population. The current lack of support compromises the health and well-being of the community, and it is the responsibility of the provincial government to act to remedy this situation.
In conclusion, the Kwango Provincial Blood Transfusion Coordination requires urgent financial, material, technical and logistical support to be able to fulfill its essential mission of safeguarding the health of the inhabitants of the region. It is time for the authorities to recognize the vital importance of this service and act accordingly to guarantee equitable access to blood transfusion for all those who need it.
