Fatshimetrie, November 7, 2024 – The association “Unité agropastorale Latemba” based in Kananga, in the heart of the Kasai Central province in the Democratic Republic of Congo, is fully committed to the promotion of market gardening, with the ultimate goal of benefiting local households.
Since its creation in 2002, this structure aims to develop the production of vegetables such as amaranths, tomatoes, okra, eggplants, and many others, on a plot of land of nearly 10 hectares in Katende wa Bakua Buisha, located 23 kilometers from downtown Kananga. Despite commendable efforts, the technical director, Tshiyapa Okenge, emphasizes that the results are not yet up to expectations in terms of promoting these market gardening crops.
The main challenge lies in off-season production, as well as wholesale distribution to retailers throughout the province. However, thanks to an efficient work system put in place, the Latemba Agropastoral Unit was able to resume its activities after the tumultuous events of Kamuena Nsapu.
The technical director is pleased with the availability of agricultural and industrial equipment, promoting increased productivity and benefiting all households. Indeed, the positive impact of this productivity is already being felt through local homes.
The commitment of the association “Latemba Agropastoral Unit” demonstrates an unwavering desire to actively contribute to the food security of local populations, while promoting the economic development of the region.
