**Fatshimetrie: Investigation into the heart of sexual violence in the Lega and Hunde communities of Kivu**
As part of an in-depth investigation into sexual violence within the traditional communities of Greater Kivu, our Fatshimetrie team undertook an unprecedented dive into the realities experienced by the Lega and Hunde populations. Through exclusive interviews with Ngolis Mwindulwa Ngoma and Thomas d’Aquin Muiti, respective members of these communities, we sought to understand the mechanisms in place to prevent and combat this insidious violence.
Discussions with our guests revealed disturbing testimonies about the existence of sexual violence within their communities. Ngolis Mwindulwa Ngoma stressed that although these acts were considered shameful and reprehensible, a certain silence often surrounded the victims, thus hindering denunciation and adequate care. For his part, Thomas Aquinas Muiti highlighted the importance of raising awareness on these issues within the Hunde community, in order to break taboos and encourage open dialogue on these sensitive topics.
It is imperative to recognize that sexual violence, whether physical, psychological or economic, is a pervasive scourges in many societies, including those rooted in deep cultural traditions. As a modernized and enlightened society, it is our duty to challenge the social norms and harmful practices that fuel and perpetuate this unacceptable violence.
It is time to break the silence and give voice to victims, promote education and awareness to prevent such heinous acts, and strengthen support and protection mechanisms for vulnerable people. Through a collaborative and inclusive approach, we can work together to build safer and more respectful communities, where everyone can flourish freely, without fear of violence and exploitation.
