In the field of infrastructure and transport development in the Democratic Republic of Congo, close collaboration with China is proving to be a strategic opportunity. The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Transport, Communication Channels and Disenclavement, Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo highlighted this orientation during the Council of Ministers on November 22, 2024. Indeed, he presented an information note highlighting the preparation of projects to be proposed to Chinese financial institutions within the framework of Sino-Congolese cooperation.
Through recent progress, it was revealed that the fourth meeting of the Task Force, held on November 12, 2024, was decisive. Its objective was to compile the final lists of projects to be submitted to the Chinese side for their defense to Chinese financial institutions in December. A proactive approach was recommended to the sectoral ministries to ensure the success of this crucial step. Each project had to be accompanied by a summary sheet and a detailed feasibility study, as well as an executive summary to facilitate understanding and evaluation.
It should be noted that Sino-Congolese cooperation is based on seven priority strategic axes, including infrastructure (airports, ports, railways), agriculture, energy and water resources, transformation of mineral resources, health, vocational training and cultural exchanges, as well as scientific research. This diversity of sectors demonstrates the scale of the opportunities offered by this collaboration.
The message from the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Transport, Communication Channels and Disenclavement is clear: the ministries involved must act quickly by submitting their projects for the effective implementation of this promising cooperation. It is essential to seize this opportunity to strengthen ties and promote the socio-economic development of the DRC.
In conclusion, Sino-Congolese collaboration in the field of transport and infrastructure represents an essential lever for the growth and modernization of the country. By relying on a proactive and well-structured approach, the projects envisaged can contribute significantly to improving the living conditions of the Congolese populations and to consolidating the DRC’s international relations.
