International cooperation for sustainable development is on the agenda in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with the conclusion of two major agreements between the Congolese government and the French Development Agency (AFD). These agreements mark the beginning of a new era of collaboration between Kinshasa and Paris, with a focus on economic reforms and the sustainable development of the city of Boma.
The “CCD 1207 Budget Support” Agreement aims to strengthen the macroeconomic and financial stability of the DRC, by aligning with national priorities in financial governance. Clear objectives have been set to make the public revenue chain more reliable, streamline budgetary processes and promote efficient public finance management. In parallel, the grant protocol for the integrated initiative for secondary cities focuses on crucial issues such as adaptation to climate change, the development of essential urban facilities and the promotion of economic and social inclusion, with particular attention to women and young people.
These agreements are part of a global strategy to consolidate the foundations of sustainable development in the DRC. The strengthening of priority sectors such as energy, water, health and education is at the heart of discussions for a future protocol, aimed at consolidating the development trajectory undertaken by the country.
The Congolese Minister of Finance, Doudou Fwamba, underlines the strategic importance of these agreements in the implementation of the Government’s Action Program, highlighting macroeconomic stability and governance as pillars of this partnership. This bilateral cooperation, which amounts to 550 million euros, aims to support the economic and social development of the DRC, by positioning the city of Boma as a key player in the urban modernization process through an integrated and sustainable approach.
With these new collaborations, France is committed to supporting the sustainable development of the DRC, thus strengthening the partnership between the two countries. The dynamism of this cooperation demonstrates the common desire to promote sustainable economic and social development in the DRC, with Boma as a pilot city in this noble enterprise.
