Fatshimetrie July 12, 2024 – The civil society forces of Kisangani, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, recently looked into the management of the University of Kisangani (UNIKIS) by the management committee in place. This monitoring mission allowed civil society to closely examine the actions carried out by the rector of UNIKIS, Prof. Faustin Bongilo, and his team, and to welcome the progress made in various areas.
On the health front, significant progress has been observed, notably with the acquisition of the scanner, a first for the city of Kisangani, and the installation of an oxygen production plant. These initiatives demonstrate the management committee’s commitment to improving health infrastructure within the university.
On the infrastructure side, major works have been undertaken, such as the construction of buildings to accommodate more than two hundred students of the Faculty of Psychology, the enclosure of the premises up to the UNIKIS primary school and the completion of buildings left unfinished by the former management team. These achievements contribute to providing an environment conducive to learning and research within the university.
Regarding social initiatives, important measures have been taken, including the increase in bonuses and the coverage of professors’ funerals, as well as the defense of several theses and the creation of the fishing school. These actions aim to support the well-being of members of the university community and to encourage research and innovation.
Civil society has highlighted the need for better electricity supply to the university in order to ensure the proper functioning of the scanner and to meet the health needs of the local population. This request highlights the importance of providing the necessary resources to ensure the development and progress of the university.
