Fatshimetrie recently reported a tragedy in eastern Uganda, where at least 15 people have been killed and 113 others are missing after landslides hit six villages. The violent storms have swallowed up 40 homes, leaving behind a devastated landscape and torn families.
Uganda Red Cross rescuers have recovered 13 bodies so far, and the search continues as hopes of finding survivors fade. The affected villages, located in the mountainous Bulambuli district, were hit by torrential rains, leading to deadly landslides.
The harrowing images shared on social media show residents frantically searching through mud for survivors, while homes were completely buried under the thick layer of earth. This natural disaster has left an indelible mark on the local community, especially among children, with the majority of bodies recovered being those of the youngest.
Bulambuli District Member of Parliament, Irene Muloni, has called for the immediate relocation of residents from this landslide-prone area. Authorities will need to act quickly to evacuate residents to safer locations to avoid further tragedies.
This emergency highlights the challenges faced by some vulnerable communities due to extreme weather conditions. Heavy rains have cut off major roads, complicating relief operations and leaving many villages isolated and vulnerable.
