Egypt’s commitment to stability and humanitarianism in Sudan

Sudan faces major political and humanitarian challenges, and Egypt is committed to promoting stability in the country to enable the Sudanese people to rebuild and achieve their aspirations. An international meeting stressed the importance of preserving Sudanese state institutions, addressing humanitarian needs and achieving a ceasefire. Egypt played an active role in hosting a conference between Sudanese political and civil forces and facilitating the rapid distribution of humanitarian aid. Collective and coordinated action is needed to stabilize Sudan, demonstrating the importance of international solidarity in the face of global challenges.
The world is facing many political and humanitarian challenges, and one of the countries that is particularly attracting attention is Sudan. In a context of turmoil and multiple crises, the issue of stability in this African country is more crucial than ever. It is in this context that the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, stressed Egypt’s commitment to promoting stability in Sudan in order to enable the Sudanese people to rebuild their nation and achieve their aspirations.

During a quartet meeting on Sudan, with the participation of the US Secretary of State, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs and the UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, Abdelatty stressed the need to preserve the institutions of the Sudanese state and respect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He also stressed the importance for donor countries to fulfill their commitments to respond to humanitarian needs in Sudan. Indeed, it is unfair to leave the burden of the humanitarian crisis in Sudan to the neighboring countries alone. He thus insisted on two main objectives: achieving a ceasefire and ensuring the delivery of effective humanitarian aid.

The worrying humanitarian situation in Sudan, which has led to the internal displacement of more than 11 million Sudanese and the asylum of more than 3 million others in neighboring countries, including Egypt, was at the heart of Abdelatty’s concerns. He highlighted Egypt’s efforts to address this crisis, both politically and humanitarianly. By hosting the conference of Sudanese political and civil forces in July 2024, Egypt sought to foster a Sudanese consensus, without excluding any party.

Furthermore, Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s actions to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to Sudan. By providing facilities to UN agencies and humanitarian organizations to ensure the rapid distribution of aid to the Sudanese brothers, Egypt demonstrates its commitment to the humanitarian cause in Sudan.

Ultimately, the situation in Sudan requires collective and coordinated action by the international community to address the urgent needs of the affected populations and work towards stabilizing the country. Egypt’s commitment to stability in Sudan demonstrates the importance of solidarity and cooperation among nations to overcome the humanitarian and political challenges that are emerging on a global scale.
