The meeting on strengthening socio-economic governance in the DRC, recently organized by the Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace of CENCO, as well as other civil society organizations and governance experts, has generated keen interest and high expectations regarding the concrete solutions that could result from it.
The primary objective of this initiative was to take stock of the major challenges facing the Democratic Republic of Congo on the socio-economic level. Through in-depth analyses and fruitful discussions, participants stressed the urgency of improving the living conditions of the Congolese, highlighting the crucial issues related to health, food, access to drinking water and electricity.
According to Cyrille Ebotoko, executive secretary of the Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace, this approach is part of the desire of the Catholic bishops to support the Government in implementing concrete measures to promote the well-being of the population. He recalled that this commitment stems from the promise made to the Prime Minister by religious representatives during their meeting last June.
For his part, Monsignor Donatien Nshole, Secretary General of CENCO, highlighted the glaring shortcomings in terms of access to drinking water, electricity and the state of road infrastructure in the DRC. These findings highlight the need for urgent and coordinated action to improve the quality of life of the Congolese and promote the country’s economic development.
The meeting was also an opportunity for the experts and researchers present to share their knowledge and recommendations with a view to supporting the Congolese authorities in developing effective policies and measures. The challenge is twofold: to identify key issues and formulate pragmatic recommendations that can be implemented quickly to drive positive and lasting change.
In conclusion, this meeting on strengthening socio-economic governance in the DRC has laid a solid foundation for fruitful collaboration between the various stakeholders involved. The stakes are high, but the commitment and mobilization of everyone offer promising prospects for the future of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
