Fatshimetrie, an online media outlet based in Kinshasa, is highlighting a unique campaign called “Voices of the Displaced: For a Concrete Change” dedicated to the fight against gender-based violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This initiative, launched on the sidelines of the 16 Days of Activism against Violence Against Women, aims to raise awareness among the public and authorities about the suffering endured by displaced women, as well as the need for effective and sustainable government action to address it.
In the eastern provinces of the DRC, particularly in Kanyaruchinya, Bulengo and Lushagala, displaced women face violence of all forms, amplified by a context of constant precariousness and insecurity. The “Voices of the Displaced” campaign aims to give a voice to these marginalized women by sharing their heartbreaking testimonies and drawing attention to their urgent needs.
As part of the 16 Days of Activism, a global movement to combat violence against women, this campaign also resonates with the goals of the Beijing Declaration on Gender Equality, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
The Voices of the Displaced campaign programme unfolds across a variety of multimedia formats, including powerful video testimonies directly addressed to Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka, as well as a multi-episode podcast exploring the lived realities of displaced women, the humanitarian responses needed, the role of civil society and priority actions to be taken.
In addition to the testimonies and podcasts, insightful infographics are shared to highlight key data on gender-based violence in displacement camps. The campaign also deploys an interactive digital strategy, leveraging hashtags such as #VoicesOfDisplaced to engage audiences and mobilise decision-makers.
Through a partnership with a media company, this campaign aims to reach more than one million people through digital platforms, with the aim of raising collective awareness and mobilizing for immediate political action.
Through this initiative, Fatshimetrie strengthens its commitment to quality journalism, in line with contemporary socio-political issues. By highlighting the often ignored realities of displaced women, the “Voices of the Displaced” campaign contributes to raising awareness among the public and decision-makers on the urgent need to act against gender-based violence in the DRC.
In conclusion, this campaign embodies a call to action and solidarity with displaced women, highlighting their voices and experiences to build a more inclusive future that respects the fundamental rights of all.
