The deterioration of the security and humanitarian situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, particularly in the east of the country, is a worrying topical issue that deeply affects the Congolese population. Multiple factors such as the activism of armed groups and natural disasters have contributed to worsening the humanitarian crisis in the region.

During a recent presentation of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report, the Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in the DRC, Bruno Lemarquis, highlighted the challenges facing populations requiring an emergency response. He stressed that millions of people in the DRC will find themselves in need in 2025, requiring a large-scale humanitarian intervention.

The situation on the ground is alarming, with a quarter of the Congolese population facing severe food insecurity, making the DRC one of the countries most affected by this scourge. Children are particularly vulnerable, with more than 1.3 million children suffering from severe acute malnutrition. These alarming figures are the result of armed conflicts, massive population displacements and structural challenges related to underdevelopment and poverty.

Beyond the humanitarian emergency, Bruno Lemarquis stresses the importance of addressing the root causes of food insecurity by investing in sustainable development, local production and resilience to shocks. He highlights the urgent need to prioritize the development agenda to create a more secure and prosperous future for all Congolese.

The alarming IPC analysis highlights that millions of people in the DRC are in a situation of acute food insecurity, requiring urgent action. The provinces of North Kivu, South Kivu and Ituri are particularly affected, with millions of people in a situation of acute food crisis.

Faced with this collective tragedy, Bruno Lemarquis calls for concerted mobilization to fight hunger in the DRC and offer a better future to all Congolese. He emphasizes the importance of collective action to guarantee each individual access to adequate and sustainable food.

In conclusion, the humanitarian and food situation in the DRC is alarming and requires a coordinated and effective response. It is imperative to combat the root causes of food insecurity and invest in sustainable development to ensure a better future for all Congolese.
