The massive influx of heavy goods vehicles parked along Konda-Konda, OUA and Massamba avenues, in the heart of the Grand-Bazar district in Ngaliema, has attracted particular attention in recent days, due to its negative impact on road traffic in the region.
The constant presence of these trucks, using one of the two lanes of Konda-Konda avenue as a huge parking lot towards the Mino-Congo company, has led to the formation of traffic jams and has considerably complicated the mobility of residents. The intersection of Konda-Konda, Massamba and OUA avenues has been particularly affected by the presence of more than 50 trucks parked since Thursday morning, thus occupying a large part of these main arteries.
Residents of Grand-Bazar have expressed their discontent with this recurring invasion which disrupts their daily lives. Some drivers of these heavy goods vehicles explained that this illegal parking was linked to the lack of parking spaces available at the Mino-Congo company. This justification was shared by some residents, emphasizing the urgent need for solutions to regulate this situation.
The head of the Grand-Bazar neighborhood stated that this problem did not fall within his jurisdiction, referring to a responsibility of the urban authorities. He emphasized that the latter were already informed of the situation and were called upon to act to resolve this problem of illegal parking.
When asked about the issue, the Mino-Congo company refrained from any comment on this subject, leaving the measures planned to stem this annoying practice a mystery.
Faced with this worrying situation, it is imperative that concrete measures be taken to ensure the fluidity of road traffic in Grand-Bazar. The proper management of heavy goods vehicle parking, in collaboration with the competent authorities, is essential to ensure the safety and comfort of the region’s residents.
