**The Deplorable State of the Roads in the Haut-Uele Province, in the Democratic Republic of Congo: An Ordeal for the Residents**
The Haut-Uele province, located in the extreme northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo, faces a major problem: the deplorable state of its road network. Despite multiple attempts by local authorities to improve infrastructure, the roads remain in poor condition, causing many inconveniences for the inhabitants of the region.
The testimonies of users are alarming. Dozens of vehicles get stuck or break down due to the defective roads. The inhabitants face unbearable travel conditions, as witnessed by Monsignor Émile Mushosho, Bishop of the Diocese of Dungu-Doruma, who recently took the road linking Dungu to Isiro.
“The journey has become an ordeal between Dungu and Isiro. It is almost impossible to travel by car; only motorcycles can pass. Traveling 210 kilometers on such a dilapidated road is exhausting. It took us more than 10 hours to make the journey. This situation is unacceptable and endangers the lives of the inhabitants of the region,” he lamented.
Bishop Mushosho calls on the authorities to become aware of the urgency of the situation and act quickly to relieve the local populations. The road linking Dungu to Isiro is essential for trade and the supply of goods from abroad. Its deterioration causes immense suffering for the inhabitants who depend on this communication route for their economic activity.
“We ask the authorities to mobilize the necessary resources for the maintenance of this vital road. It is imperative to act quickly to avoid a humanitarian crisis in the region. The inhabitants are in great precariousness and the deterioration of the roads only worsens their situation,” he stressed.
It is urgent that concrete measures be taken to address this chronic problem. The people of Haut-Uele deserve reliable and secure road infrastructure to ensure their economic development and well-being. It is the duty of the authorities to guarantee decent living conditions for all citizens, by ensuring the quality of roads and transport infrastructure in the region.
