The “Muda wa Amani” project: A ray of hope for the youth of North Kivu

The "Muda wa Amani" project in North Kivu province has enabled the socio-economic reintegration of 600 young ex-combatants, through urban rehabilitation works. This commendable initiative, led by the mayor of Butembo, has generated positive and concrete benefits in terms of reducing unemployment and improving the urban environment. Local authorities, civil society and the community have committed to supporting this initiative to ensure its sustainability. In the province of North Kivu, the “Muda wa Amani” project has recently proven itself by actively contributing to the socio-economic reintegration of six hundred young ex-combatants of armed groups. This commendable initiative, promoted by the Mayor of Butembo, Senior Commissioner Mowa Baeki Telly Roger, has been able to generate concrete and positive results.

During a restitution workshop on labor-intensive works in Butembo, Senior Commissioner Mowa Baeki welcomed the progress made through the “Muda wa Amani” project. By involving ex-combatants and vulnerable young people in the rehabilitation of infrastructure and sanitation in the city, this project has not only helped reduce unemployment, but has also improved the health and aesthetics of the urban environment.

The coordinator of the PDDRC-S in North Kivu, Clovis Munihire, also welcomed the success of the first phase of the project, while stressing the importance of increased involvement of the entire community and local authorities to ensure the sustainability of the initiative.

In addition, civil society and citizen movements have committed to actively supporting this project, which aims to mentor 600 young people in order to strengthen peace and social cohesion in this strategic region of the Far North of the province.
