Linafoot’s decision: A lesson in fair play and ethics for Congolese football

The Linafoot Management Commission has issued a harsh verdict after the derby between TP Mazembe and FC Saint Eloi Lupopo. Reprehensible practices such as fetishism and acts of violence resulted in financial sanctions for both clubs. Despite this, the result of the match was not changed, highlighting the importance of fair play and respect for the rules. This case is a reminder of the imperative to maintain ethics and discipline in Congolese football, in order to preserve the integrity and credibility of the sport.
When passions flare on the pitch, reason must prevail behind the scenes. It is in this state of mind that the Management Commission of the National Football League of Congo delivered its implacable verdict at the end of the Lubumbashi derby between TP Mazembe and FC Saint Eloi Lupopo. The facts attributed to the Lubumbashi club are serious: fetishistic practices, throwing projectiles, violation of the neutral zone, invasion of the playing area and breaking of stadium seats. An accumulation of reprehensible incidents that forced the championship’s governing body to take firm measures.

Linafoot’s decision is unequivocal: TP Mazembe is found guilty and will be subject to a series of exemplary sanctions. The $7,500.00 fine imposed on the black and white club is intended to repair the damage caused, in addition to the loss of its share of the match revenue and the full repair of the damaged seats. The responsibility of FC Saint Eloi Lupopo is also not ruled out, since a $1,000 fine is imposed on it for throwing projectiles.

This draconian decision does not, however, change the result of the match, where FC Saint Eloi Lupopo won on the field by a score of one goal to zero (1-0). This confirmation of the result acquired on the pitch underlines the importance of respecting the rules of the game and maintaining the integrity of sports competitions.

Beyond the quarrels and passions, this case reminds us of the imperative for clubs and supporters to demonstrate fair play and respect towards the opponent and the governing bodies of football. In a sport where emotion is omnipresent, reason and respect for the rules remain the essential pillars to ensure the sustainability and credibility of competitions.

Thus, Linafoot’s decision should serve as a lesson to all stakeholders in Congolese football, recalling that passion must never give way to non-respect for the fundamental values of sport. Only the restoration of ethics and discipline will allow this magnificent sport to continue to inspire and unite, with respect and dignity.

Linafoot’s decision is a necessary reminder that football is more than just a match, it is a reflection of our society and our values. Let us hope that this sanction serves as a lesson and helps promote an exemplary sportsmanship for all football fans in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
