In a context where the mining industry plays a central role in the economy of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the fraudulent export of gold is a major concern. Indeed, the company DRC Gold Trading SA recently highlighted a fraudulent practice that is plaguing the gold sector in eastern DRC.
During an event marking the change of the company’s name, Joseph Kazibaziba, Managing Director of DRC Gold Trading SA, warned of the harmful consequences of the illegal export of gold in the region. According to his statements, more than 50 tons of gold are fraudulently exported each year, equivalent to more than 5 billion US dollars. This situation raises major economic and security issues for the country.
To counter this scourge, the company DRC Gold Trading SA has taken important measures by modifying its shareholder structure. The Congolese State now holds 55% of the shares, the Mining Fund for Future Generations holds 30% and GECAMINES 15%. This change aims to strengthen control and transparency in the management of artisanally mined gold.
Joseph Kazibaziba stressed the importance of channeling artisanal gold production and combating fraudulent practices that deprive the State of resources essential for its development. He also called for increased collaboration between local stakeholders to ensure responsible and sustainable mining.
This new dynamic within DRC Gold Trading SA demonstrates the company’s commitment to actively contribute to the fight against fraudulent gold exports in the DRC. By relying on inclusive shareholders and transparent governance, the company is positioning itself as a key player in the development of the country’s gold resources and in promoting mining that complies with international standards.
In conclusion, the fight against fraudulent gold exports in the DRC is a crucial issue that requires collective mobilization and concrete actions. Thanks to initiatives such as that of DRC Gold Trading SA, it is possible to promote responsible mining that benefits the entire Congolese population and contributes to the sustainable development of the country.
