The Royal Speech: Determination and Integrity of Morocco on the Sahara Question

The speech of His Majesty King Mohammed VI highlights Morocco
The speech of His Majesty King Mohammed VI highlights Morocco’s determination to defend its territorial integrity and the Moroccanness of its Sahara. The Sovereign underlines the attachment of the inhabitants of the Sahara to their Moroccan identity, based on strong historical ties. Indeed, the Sahrawi population remains faithful to the national symbols of the Kingdom, as evidenced by the centuries-old tradition of the Beia which binds them to the Kings of Morocco.

Furthermore, the speech emphasizes the positive dynamics of development, security and stability present in the Saharan provinces of Morocco. This tangible reality contrasts with outdated and disconnected speeches, which continue to promote obsolete and unrealistic theories, including the demand for a referendum that is inapplicable according to the United Nations.

Morocco positions itself in favor of a solution based on the autonomy initiative for the Sahara, supported internationally and offering a framework for collaboration and progress for the entire region. However, the Kingdom notes that some international actors are diverting the Sahrawi issue for political or economic purposes, to the detriment of Morocco’s territorial integrity.

Faced with these challenges, His Majesty the King calls on the United Nations to assume its responsibilities and recognize the legitimacy of Morocco’s position on the Sahara issue. He also recalls the importance of ensuring equity in development for all Moroccan citizens, whether they reside in the Sahara, the Rif or elsewhere, so that everyone can benefit from the country’s economic and social advances.

In conclusion, the royal speech underlines Morocco’s firm commitment to its territorial integrity, the Moroccanness of the Sahara and shared progress within the nation. The Kingdom affirms its determination to defend its legitimate interests while promoting an approach of cooperation and inclusive development for its entire territory.
