Strategic meeting in Kinshasa: Strengthening security with former Congolese military leaders

Fatshimetrie, November 2, 2024 – A strategic meeting was recently held in Kinshasa between the Deputy Prime Minister of Defense and the former Chiefs of General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC). The objective of this meeting was to address security concerns in the various military regions, particularly in the east of the country.

The participants of this meeting, including renowned military figures such as Lieutenant General Célestin Kifwa, Army General Didier Etumba and Grand Admiral Baudouin Liwanga, were asked to provide their expertise and thoughts on the security situation throughout the Congolese territory.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Defense, Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita, expressed his desire to optimize the conditions and operational efficiency of the Congolese armed forces, in line with the vision of the Head of State, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo. This approach is part of a defense policy aimed at strengthening national security and responding to current security challenges.

The openness and inclusive approach of the number one of National Defense were welcomed by the Honorary Chiefs of General Staff, who pledged to support this initiative. This consultation between the Minister of Defense and former military officials follows a series of similar meetings, including that with former Ministers of National Defense and the recent tour of the Deputy Prime Minister in the provinces of the Greater Katanga area.

This meeting demonstrates the willingness of the Congolese authorities to consult and cooperate with former senior military officials, in order to consolidate efforts in the areas of security and national defense. It also illustrates the importance of the experience and expertise of the former Chiefs of General Staff in resolving the country’s security challenges.
