Fatshimétrie, a publication dedicated to humanitarian news, highlights the urgent appeal of Prisca Luanda Kamala, Senior Advisor to the Military Governor of North Kivu, for increased assistance to displaced people in the region. The humanitarian emergency facing many displaced families and their host families cannot be ignored any longer.
During a recent visit to Kanyaruchinya, in Nyiragongo territory, Prisca Luanda Kamala expressed her deep concern and stressed the need for immediate intervention by the central government or its partners. Faced with the plight of the displaced, she called for urgent assistance to alleviate their suffering and meet their basic needs.
Through her actions on the ground, the Governor’s Advisor demonstrates a concrete commitment to displaced populations, providing them with symbolic food aid. However, she recognizes that more substantial measures are needed to address the many challenges facing these vulnerable populations.
Prisca Luanda Kamala is committed to continuing her advocacy efforts, particularly in the northern part of the province where other displaced people are hosted by host families, but also remain in need. Thousands of households have fled the recent clashes between various armed groups, highlighting the magnitude of the humanitarian crisis in the region.
In response to this critical situation, the province has provided initial assistance including maize flour, beans, cooking oil and salt to displaced families. However, these efforts are not enough to fully meet the needs of the displaced people, who require continued and meaningful support to rebuild their lives and regain their dignity.
It is therefore imperative that the central government and the international community step up their efforts to provide adequate humanitarian assistance to the displaced people of North Kivu. It is time to act quickly and decisively to alleviate the suffering of these vulnerable populations and offer them a better future.
