Fatshimetrie, November 1, 2024 – A dynamic joint mission is being organized in Kenge, Kwango province in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This initiative will bring together members of the Provincial Assembly and the Provincial Executive to travel to Kinshasa and meet with central authorities to find an urgent solution to the erosion threat to National Road 1, particularly in the Kikwit camp neighborhood of Kenge city.
Nancy Kasela Lawu, Provincial Minister of Infrastructure, Public Works and Reconstruction of Kwango, stressed the urgency of rapid intervention in the face of the critical situation caused by the recent bad weather. “It is imperative that we travel to Kinshasa to meet with the National Minister of ITPR, as well as the elected national senators and deputies of Kwango. Together, we must find solutions quickly,” she said. This approach demonstrates a willingness to cooperate and mobilize local stakeholders to effectively resolve this major problem.
For his part, André Masala Ikomba Mandos, President of the Kwango Provincial Assembly, called on the heads of the provincial services of the Office des Voiries et Drainages (OVD) and the Office des Routes to develop a detailed action plan and provide a precise estimate of the work to be undertaken. This proactive approach aims to ensure rapid and effective management of the work needed to secure the RN1 and protect local populations from the risks associated with erosion.
This joint mission demonstrates the mobilization of provincial authorities in the face of the urgency of the situation and their determination to act in a coordinated manner to prevent potential damage. By emphasizing the need for rapid and concerted action, Kwango’s political leaders are setting an example of proactive crisis management and effective management of the socio-environmental challenges facing the region.
