Fatshimetrie, October 31, 2024 (FAT).- The sanitation works undertaken in the commune of Lumpembe, a strategic municipality in the city of Lusambo, in the Sankuru province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, are a positive sign of increased awareness of the importance of hygiene and the environment within the local community.
Under the energetic direction of the governor of the province, Victor Kitenge Kanyama, in collaboration with the various municipal bodies, the initiative aims to eliminate the hotspots of the commune, focusing on the evacuation of waste and the demolition of illegal constructions erected on public land.
The mayor of the commune of Lumpembe, Jean-Paul Mulenga Kitenge, closely supervised the start of these sanitation works, stressing the importance of this operation which extends from the road section linking Lusambo to Mukendi Tshimpuki to Place de la Liberté. The removal of unwanted kiosks and sheds was carried out rigorously by the sanitation brigade, demonstrating the authorities’ desire to restore order and cleanliness in the commune.
Beyond the simple evacuation of illegal infrastructures, Mayor Mulenga also sent formal notices to the remaining occupants, stressing the urgency for them to comply with the standards in force under penalty of demolition. At the same time, an awareness-raising team was deployed to inform the population of the measures taken and the consequences of non-compliance with the established rules.
